We’ve Done the Math!

Peninsula and South Bay Area residents: do you want to be part of the urgent mission of 350.org to transition to 21st century energy sources and fight global warming?  Join us in taking action to demand policies to address climate change and in working to lower our carbon footprint here locally.

We have a number of focused efforts aligned with the goals of 350.org and 350bayarea.org

No Tar Sands, Stop Keystone XL

Our goal is to block the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline project and prevent the expansion of tar sands production.  The Keystone XL tar sands pipeline would open the spigot for vast reserves of the dirtiest source of oil in the world, which we cannot afford to use.  We already have five times more fossil fuel reserves available today than we can afford to burn without causing catastrophic climate change.  To join, go to 350SV No Tar Sands Google Group.

Divestment  (a.k.a. Global Coolers)

Our goal is to influence nearby cities, religious organizations, college campuses, and retirement funds to divest from fossil fuel companies and re-invest in sustainable energy. To join, go to Divestment Google Group

Carbon Tax/End Carbon Subsidies

Our goal is to work to support a national carbon tax or cap and trade policy that will address climate change by putting the cost of CO2 emissions into the price of fossil fuels.  We are also working to support an end to the current subsidies paid to the fossil fuel industry.  To join, go to 350SV Carbon Tax.

Outreach and Local Action

The Outreach and Local Action group works on outreach and events to educate and raise awareness about Global Warming and Climate Change.  We also work locally to lower our carbon footprints, from personal actions to community actions.  To join, contact Lisa Altieri at laltieri@earthlink.net

Stay tuned for our next meeting dates.
