Canvass to Keep Oakland Coal-Free 1/30

The battle to keep Oakland from becoming a major U.S. coal export hub continues.

We need you this Sat., Jan 30th to canvass with us in the community of West Oakland.

The developers of the export terminal are stubbornly clinging to their coal ambitions and putting intense pressure on the Oakland City Council. We believe that some council members may be wavering in their resolve to ban coal from Oakland. In response we are starting a ground campaign in the districts of those wavering council members to build counter-pressure on city council.

We are starting our campaign in West Oakland, in District three, because we believe Councilmember Lynette McElhaney has the greatest moral and political responsibility of anyone on city council to stop coal since she directly represents West Oakland, where the greatest local toxic impact would take place if the coal trains roll.

We will provide a brief training before pairing you up and sending you out to canvass.

For those who prefer, we'll also be postering on poles, at store fronts, etc.  If you can't make it this weekend, you can join us in upcoming weeks to canvass other parts of Councilmember McElhaney’s district and other key Council districts as well.

Please RSVP to let us know you can join us!
