Divestment Meeting 9/9/2015

We are working with colleges, universities, public pension funds, cities, counties, and faith-based organizations. We ask that they immediately freeze any new investment in fossil-fuel companies and divest completely within five years.

We're hosting a climate celebration this month, since SB 185 passed the Assembly on September 2 and only awaits Governor Brown's signature to become law. We're also hoping the other climate bills we have been working on, SB 32 and SB 350, will pass before the 9th and we can celebrate them too.

There are no solid predictions in this process, as you can see by consulting Janet Cox's excellent summary of likely next steps on these bills (posted at Divestment CA on 8/26/15). But it makes sense to move our meeting to Sept. 9th, following the Assembly votes.

To mark this occasion, Robert and I would like to invite everyone to join us at our home in North Berkeley to gather and take stock of what we've accomplished in the past few months—not only with our SB 185 work, but also with our ongoing Fossil Free CA campaigns for CalSTRS and CalPERS divestment. Newcomers to the divestment movement are also very welcome to join us.

We'll begin a little early this time—6:30, and we'll provide some Cheese Board pizza. Please RSVP here—and if you'd like, bring a salad or dessert or drink.
