Who's Bankrolling KXL? Strategy Call 4/5

GameOver.jpgJoin RAN on a #DefundKXL conference call. We'll walk through the specifics regarding the pipeline’s permit approval, the banks that are currently funding TransCanada, and our #DefundKXL Week of Action plan.

On March 23rd, the Trump Administration approved Canadian oil giant TransCanada’s permit to build the Keystone XL pipeline. Environmentalists and Indigenous communities across North America are moving to fight the pipeline in federal court, at the route through Nebraska and on traditional lands.

In December, 21 banks were part of a “revolving credit” that gave TransCanada $5 billion to fund the company’s pipeline business. JP Morgan Chase and Bank of Montreal are the lead banks arranging the credit. Notably, Citibank, TD Bank and Wells Fargo, which both financed the highly-controversial Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL).

We're calling for a national, coordinated week of actions: April 15 — April 21. We will take our fight to three key banks: JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo Citibank and TD Bank. We plan to mobilize thousands and let the banks know that they won’t get away with funding violations of Indigenous rights and climate-killing pipelines.
