Protect Alameda Cty Water from Fracking-Mtg 1/31

350 Bay Area has been actively supporting the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD)  in the fight to protect Alameda County's water from fracking by stopping a dangerous proposed "aquifer exemption" for the Greenville Sands aquifer near Livermore. Thanks to all of those who have submitted written comments to state regulators and who attended the hearing in Livermore on Jan 11th.  Join CBD for a planning meeting for the ongoing campaign. (For more background info, see below.)

You can also join the meeting by conference call: 510-982-1079.

An oil company has proposed to inject oilfield wastewater into an aquifer near Livermore (the Greenville Sands), through a loophole in Alameda County's fracking ban, If state regulators and the US EPA let them proceed, this could poison a future source of drinking water, and put the Bay Area at increased earthquake risk.  Many Livermore and Bay Area residents spoke out against this proposal at a Department of Conservation Hearing on January 11th.

The oil company uses a technique related to fracking known as "water flooding," for which it fought for (and won) an exception to the Alameda County fracking ban. The state Water Resources board must issue a recommendation to US EPA, who will then decide on whether or not to grant the exemption to the Safe Drinking Water Act to allow wastewater injection. Thanks to all those who attended the public hearing in Livermore,  and submitted written comments!
