SB 32 & SB 350 Senate Environmental Quality Hearing 4/29

 Climate is a health issue

Advocate for health equity in California's Global Warming Solutions Act

The good news - Senate Bill 32, an amendment to the California Global Warming Solutions Act ("AB 32") will incorporate current California policy to reduce GHG emissions to 80% below 1990 levels by 2050 into State Law. That is, make it a mandate for State agencies to achieve.

This is a huge step forward, but one more thing needs to be added to SB 32 (Pavely) to make it great news.

Health impacts and solutions need to be put on an equal level with economic impacts and technical feasibility in California's climate law. This is not currently the case, which is why we aren't getting big emission reductions in the communities most impacted by dirty industries burning fossil fuels.

350 Bay Area has submitted proposed amendments to SB 32 which will achieve this objective.

The California Senate Environmental Equity Committee will have a Hearing on Friday May 29 to consider supporting SB 32 to move it on to the next Committee. We want our health focused amendments included.

Be there to support health equity in California's climate law.
