This Saturday –

10am – 12pm, Saturday, December 14th, 2013

Hear from local toxics experts, health professionals, and residents!

We’re doing a whirlwind tour of a dozen locations in Pittsburg and neighboring Bay Point. We’ll visit and provide info on some industrial facilities, and the schools and homes near them.

Local toxics experts and health professionals will address the potential effects of WesPac on a community that already suffers astronomical rates of asthma and other respiratory disease.

We’ll end at Riverview Park by the site of the proposed WesPac project. After that we’ll get a complimentary catered organic lunch!

Baykeeper will also provide aquatic tours in their pollution patrol boat to a small number of people.

We even have vans so you don’t need to do all the driving!

Everything is free; however, you must RSVP BY PHONE for a seat in the vans (limited), a spot on the boat (also limited), and to enjoy the lunch. Call Tom Griffith of PDC (the Pittsburg Defense Council) at (510) 610-7005.

Vanpool/Carpool Start

Note: even if you didn’t reserve a spot in a van, you can also meet us here to join the caravan and, hopefully, carpool to be more environmentally friendly.

Tour End

We will arrive back at Riverview Park at 11am, our last and main stop, to tour the PG&E Pittsburg Power Plant (WesPac’s proposed location). We will walk to the side of the plant along the waterfront, hold a press conference, and conduct interviews. At 11:50am we will wrap up and head to lunch.

Side Note: Water Toxic Tour

From the Pittsburg Marina at 51-E Marina Blvd, San Francisco Baykeeper can take groups of 6 people. A total of two boat patrols, or 12 people, can participate in the aquatic tours. The first trip leaves at 11am; the second at 11:30am. To participate, you must RSVP to Tom at (510) 610-7005 and be on time for your slot.

Complimentary lunch will provided at noon in the Impulse Gallery at 329 Railroad Ave. RSVP required for lunch. Contact Tom Griffith of PDC at, you guessed it, (510) 610-7005.

Global Community Monitor, a twelve-year veteran of environmental health monitoring in fenceline communities heavily impacted by fossil fuel industry pollution, is joining forces with the Pittsburg Defense Council to assess air quality around the site of the proposed WesPac Oil Transfer & Storage Facility. Baykeeper will bring its pollution patrol boat to the Pittsburg shoreline to assess water quality. They are joined by Communities for a Better Environment, which is committed to preventing further threats to community and worker health posed by oil industry expansion along the North Bay corridor.
